Nowadays the quick fix for signs of aging like saggy skin and age lines is a course of botox injections but there is still a great deal of ignorance about what botox actually is. Despite its recent rise to fame, the original research into botox is a few decades old.

When Botox is injected into the muscles of the forehead, it blocks nerve impulses which results in the weakening of the muscles that cause frowning and eventually over a period of several months, given enough of these injections, the frown lines start to soften. In many cases the lines eventually disappear completely but botox can also be injected into the muscles of the face that cause crows feet, forehead lines and frown lines.

Botulinum toxin can be deadly and at the very least make us unwell but when it is used in cosmetic procedures, the form used is one that has been cleaned up and diluted, posing no threat. Many cosmetic manufacturers have tried to create creams to eliminate the creases and lines that are formed on our faces after years of wear and tear but botox is the only treatment to date that can actually rid them from us. Because botox paralyzes the facial muscles, people who have regular treatment often look as though they are dummies as they cannot smile properly or make other facial gestures fully that we tend to rely on when we communicate.

Depending on the amount of treatments, a person who ahs botox treatment can look fairly normal but their facial gestures will be restricted so that the creases and lines do not show. However, botox treatment is expensive and that is why it is considered as something only celebrities have as a single injection can cost anywhere from a few hundred to over a thousand dollars.

There is always some concern about new treatments and botox is no exception with many people worried about the long term effects of botox injections but even so this has not stopped its popularity.
