Botox Injections And Piriformis Syndrome

Botox has become a well used cosmetic enhancement over the last few years by ridding people of age line and wrinkles but how much do you know about Botox. Despite its recent rise to fame, the original research into botox is a few decades old.

Used originally for disorders of the brain, botox was first studied back in the early 1960’s and derived from the now famous poison Botulinum toxin. It wasn’t until around 1989 that the Federal Drug Administration agreed to allow its use in medical procedures to help people with disorders of the eye like those that cause uncontrollable blinking and crossed eyes.

Botox was also found to be effective at helping patients with neck and shoulder contractions and in the year 2000 was given the all clear to treat this condition in addition to other eye related problems. However, it was the discovery of the effect botox had on reducing frown lines that finally won over the FDA who agreed that it could be used in cosmetic procedures in 2002.

Botox Injections And Piriformis Syndrome...

You see botox is a neuro toxin, meaning it paralyses the muscles it is injected into and makes them relax so frown lines will gradually soften and subside if sufficient treatments are given. If this procedure is continued, in many instances the lines will soften so much they will appear to disappear and now the same procedure is used on other areas of the face where lines form, generally with age.

To allay any fears about injection toxin into our bodies; these injections only contain a diluted and purified version of the poison that can make us very sick. The problem is that when we laugh, cry or make any facial gesture, lines and wrinkles appear caused by the muscles that have helped create the expression and botox can eliminate these lines.

When we are young and our skin is more elastic, these lines do not show but as we age the constant sue of facial muscles leaves us with lines and whilst many manufacturers have tried to produce creams that can get rid of these wrinkles and creases, unsuccessfully, botox can, at least for a short period. After being injected into the effected area, it temporarily paralyzes these muscles so that you can’t make these expressions and that’s why people who have had Botox injections can look like mannequins.

Depending on the amount of treatments, a person who ahs botox treatment can look fairly normal but their facial gestures will be restricted so that the creases and lines do not show. Botox treatment is expensive with the average cost of just one Botox injection in the United States ranging from a few hundred dollars to in excess of 1,000 dollars depending on where the injection is used.

The side-effects of regular botox use may take some time to appear as it is only a recent addition to the cosmetic surgeon’s armory but for now, its use does not seem to be diminishing.
