Houston Botox

The uses of botox seem to be increasing all the time but despite all the hype over its use, there is still a great deal of ignorance about how it achieves the results it does. Despite its recent rise to fame, the original research into botox is a few decades old.

Botox may be famous now for it’s use in cosmetic surgery but it wasn’t always that way, as when it was first being studied by scientists in the 1960’s it was for methods to treat neurological problems in people. For patients suffering with uncontrollable blinking and crossed eyes, a treatment finally came in 1989 when the FDA granted approval for botox to be used on these patients and also for wrinkles.

By the new millennium botox had been approved for a number of other conditions including one where severe neck and shoulder contractions were causing discomfort to a number of people. The strange discovery they made quite by accident was one that help to reduce the visible lines between the eyebrows and after this in 2002 the FDA approved it’s use on this condition, botox as a cosmetic procedure, was born.

Houston Botox...

When Botox is injected into the muscles of the forehead, it blocks nerve impulses which results in the weakening of the muscles that cause frowning and eventually over a period of several months, given enough of these injections, the frown lines start to soften. If this procedure is continued, in many instances the lines will soften so much they will appear to disappear and now the same procedure is used on other areas of the face where lines form, generally with age.

Botox injections are a purified and watered down version of the sometimes fatal Botulinum poison and because of the purification process can be used in cosmetic surgery. Of course we all like to laugh and obviously use our faces for other gestures but the muscles controlling this are the cause of the line we see and obviously, botox injections can stop this.

When we are young and our skin is more elastic, these lines do not show but as we age the constant sue of facial muscles leaves us with lines and whilst many manufacturers have tried to produce creams that can get rid of these wrinkles and creases, unsuccessfully, botox can, at least for a short period. Muscles in the area of the injection become paralyzed temporarily so they cannot move which provide the user with a facial surface that is smooth and often referred to as looking like a dummy or mannequin.

A person who has undergone this treatment still has enough movement to provide some expressions but they are limited and because most of the wrinkles and creases have all but disappeared, it appears that the person is younger than their true years. However, botox treatment is expensive and that is why it is considered as something only celebrities have as a single injection can cost anywhere from a few hundred to over a thousand dollars.

Whether there are any long term effects from continued use of botox is still unknown as the treatment is still to new but for those people who do use it, it doesn’t seem to matter.
